If you are looking for a great “rocumentary” for someone for the holidays this year, then you will want to buy Ladies & Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones. This is the legendary Rolling Stones concert film shot during the “Exile On Main Street” tour in 1972. The film records live footage from the band’s 1972 North American tour and was released in cinemas for limited engagements in 1974.
This concert footage, which had been largely unseen since then, has now been restored and remastered. Okay, so you’re thinking, “why bother?” This is one of the best Rolling Stones concerts ever captured on film. It represents the epitome of the late ’60s and early ’70s rock and roll. This footage features outstanding performances and classic tracks. During this period, the band consists of: Mick Jagger as lead vocalist, and he also plays the harmonica; Keith Richards on guitars and backing vocals; Mick Taylor on guitars; Bill Wyman on bass guitar; and Charlie Watts on drums. This recording captures the Stones at the peak of their musical prowess, and the height of their popularity.
The song list is as follows:
1. Brown Sugar [6:56]
2. Bitch [4:44]
3. Gimme Shelter [4:50]
4. Dead Flowers [4:09]
5. Happy [3:07]
6. Tumbling Dice [5:17]
7. Love In Vain [6:36]
8. Sweet Virginia [4:31]
9. You Can’t Always Get What You Want [7:23]
10. All Down The Line [5:23]
11. Midnight Rambler [12:42]
12. Bye Bye Johnny [3:25]
13. Rip This Joint [2:24]
14. Jumpin’ Jack Flash [3:40]
15. Street Fighting Man [7:10]
Bonus footage includes a previously unreleased recording of the rehearsal for the tour filmed in Switzerland, and interviews with Mick Jagger from 1972 and 2010. The concert footage is 70 minutes long. This is a superb concert documentary as it concentrates on the concert and nothing else. Stones fans can relive the experience of attending a fabulous concert from the comfort of their living rooms.
