Looking for a challenging fantasy board game for one to five players? Then you will want to buy Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game. This game is fine as a stand alone board game, for any players without Dungeons and Dragons experience. It is also a lot of fun for table-top Role Playing Game (RPG) gamers. The minis, tokens and tiles are beautifully crafted and can very easily serve as dungeon mapping for any home campaigns. Castle Ravenloft can also serve as and entry-level experience for RPG style play, without having to deal with the myriad character sheets, statistic generation, etc., associated with typical RPGs.

The premise of the game is this: the master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner—and you are invited! However, evil lurks in the towers and dungeons of Castle Ravenloft, and only heroes of exceptional bravery can survive the horrors within.
There are 40 plastic heroes and monsters which are conveniently color coded by type. The heroes are a light grey, the notorious villains (ie Strahd, werewolf) are a dark grey, the undead (ie skeletons, zombies) are white, th
e spectral undead (ie ghosts, specters) are light blue, and the animals are brown.
The game includes 13 sheets of interlocking cardstock dungeon tiles. There are punch tiles which comprise the game boards, character cards, status modifiers, coffins, and health pips, and more. The game board is created during the course of play. Several tiles represent the rooms and corridors of the castle. As the characters move, more and more of the castle is revealed. There are 200 encounter and treasure cards. These direct the action of the game. Specific actions, encounters, etc., are dictated here and if the hero is able to defeat the monster he will gain both equipment and experience points. The experience points then go into a community pool and can be used to invalidate certain encounters or to “level-up” a hero.
The game also comes with a rule book and a scenario book. The scenario book allows the player to determine the conditions of victory for the game. Some of he scenarios can be linked to enable a more detailed game which can be played over a longer period of time. And, of course, the players can devise their own scenarios; they are limited only by their imaginations. Since this is a cooperative game, the entire group will win or lose, as a whole.
Dungeons & Dragons is one of the longest lived RPG fantasy games around. If you know someone who would like an introduction to this style of game, is a fan of the fantasy genre, or love Dungeons & Dragons, then you will want to buy the Dungeons & Dragons Board Game.
