If you are looking for a great holiday movie the whole family can enjoy, then you will want to buy Disney’s A Christmas Carol Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo. This is the classic Christmas tale we all know and love, as directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Jim Carey stars as Scrooge. He also plays the three Ghosts: Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Gary Oldman takes on the roles of Marley, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim. Colin Firth plays Scrooge’s nephew, Fred.
The story takes place during Victorian era England. Here we have Ebenezer Scrooge, an irritable miser who absolutely abhors Christmas and all it stands for. Having lost his business partner (Marley) on Christmas Eve seven years earlier, Scrooge holds true to their mission of making money above all else. Scrooge is still running the business in the same exploitative manner as he was when Marley was alive. He barely pays Bob Cratchit a working wage, certainly not enough to support his household and his crippled son, Tiny Tim.
This Christmas Eve he is visited by the doomed ghost of his old business partner, Marley, who advises Scrooge that three spirits will visit him that night. The first spirit, the Ghost of Christmas past takes Scrooge back in time to visit his miserable youth; the Ghost of the Christmas Present brings Scrooge to the Cratchit household so that Scrooge can see firsthand how, even without any money, the Cratchits are able to enjoy life and love; and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come who shows Scrooge his death, and how no one will mourn this miserable man. In subjecting Scrooge to these visitations, Marley has given Scrooge the best Christmas present ever, the possibility to see the course his life is taking and to change direction before it is too late. Will Scrooge change his ways?
This is one of the best treatments of Dicken’s classic cautionary tale. If you would like to get a great Christmas classic for your family, then you will want to buy Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
