Out of the box, you can see there is sold construction. Also, I like the look of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101-A1 10.1-Inch Tablet Computer. The textured back cover has a nice feel and grip to it, and it feels sturdy. The screen at 10.1 inches looks great, good viewing angles. On the advice of a friend, I tried Google Earth on this machine. Wow, just amazing!
Generally, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101-A1 10.1-Inch Tablet Computer runs very smoothly. Also, the swiping, switching screen, and zooming in, all perform very well.
The three function buttons, permanently on screen are a nice touch. One is a home screen button; it takes you there wherever you are. One switches between screens, which I really like as multi-tasking becomes the norm on tablets. The other is a “one step back” function, again handy.
The ability to multi-task easily is where this tablet crosses into the territory of others. I had email, Skype and music running while I edited a document (Polaris Office comes pre-installed so you can edit Microsoft Office). This is really impressive.
The number off Apps is obviously nowhere that of Apples collection, but the “free” system means this is growing, and it is growing fast. I also like the flexibility of Android as opposed to the iOS, and Flash 10.0 runs very nicely too!
The file manager is excellent, and I created files and transferred stuff to my PC with no trouble. Synchronizing contacts was easy too – a very pleasant experience.
The docking keyboard is a very nice touch and a necessary one for working on documents and longer mails and messages as the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer transforms the role of the tablet. The keyboard has 2 USB slots and 1 SD Card-Reader, this comes separately though.
Cons:
The speakers are a little light, but that’s unsurprising in a tablet. Headphones solve this easily.
The power chord is way too short if you want to work and charge, however the battery life is good so you are not running to the wall socket any more than you have to. The recharge time is very quick too, so this is almost forgiven.
Reviews:
- “…his tablet is great and I am looking forward to future Android updates to make it even better. Five stars for a good tablet…”
- “…I do not generally write reviews but this tablet is worth it. I have owned(and returned) and Motorola Xoom and have tested the iPad 2. BOTH are nice devices for sure but a tad bit overpriced and I am not a huge fan of the boring iOS customization options. For [the price] (Asus Transformer 16gb version) you get the 10 inch tablet, you get the Tegra POWER, the nice sound and the latest Android tablet operating system (honeycomb) which is the perfect combination…”
- “…It’s hard for me to imagine a better end-user experience…”
- “…the Transformer offers a great deal when it comes to features and expandability and it’s the clear price leader…”
- “…My entire family loves this product and find it to be not only a computer replacement unless you have custom built business softwares that must be used on a PC network, but a definite iPad2 killer in our opinion…”
Overall…
I really liked this tablet. It does not have the beauty and build quality of the iPad 2, but comparisons should focus on its flexibility, multitasking abilities and the almost netbook-like feel. At this price ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Tablet compares very, very favorably to anything on the market.
